THE SCIENCE OF LIGHT
A. SCIENCE AND THE MAKER
God precedes all manner of scientific revolution.
In His Sovereignty, He placed a great portion of His Essence in all that is around us. This Essence forms the substance of scientific ‘discoveries’.
Light is no exception.
B. JULIANNE (EINSTEIN) EXPLAINS THE THEORY OF LIGHT
Light is many things.
It is especially known to be really fast. Nothing with mass can travel at or faster than the speed of light. Some scientists have estimated that light travels 15 billion times faster than the blink of an eye.
Scientists have posited that light is fast because it is able to travel without encountering any resistance or other obstacles that would slow it down.
The speed of light is also considered a fundamental constant of nature.
Light is a real phenomenon if ever there was one.
If she had a personality (which I am sure she does in Heaven), she would probably struggle to remain humble. 🫠
C. THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
The things of the world ought to teach us the things of The Kingdom.
The Bible is riddled with parables and variety of references to light. When the prophets of old spoke of Jesus, He was referred to as the Light. When He came, He aligned us with a new identity: the Light.
This technically means we embody (or ought to embody) the characteristics of this light.
i. Light as the overpowerer of darkness
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.” Isaiah 9:2
The light is called to demonstrate and push back the kingdom of darkness. We live in a world shrouded in this kingdom. Thankfully, it is impossible for light to be swallowed up in the dark.
This perhaps explains why we currently have phrases like ‘the light at the end of the tunnel’, because the light is impossible to miss.
May we always gravitate towards the Light. 💜
ii. Light and the Spirit of Excellence
“This man Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, has an extraordinary spirit and is full of revelation and understanding. He possesses a rare ability to interpret dreams, unravel mysteries, and find solutions to impossible problems. So send for Daniel, and he will reveal to you what this handwriting means.””
Daniel 5:12
Throughout history, there has not been one discovery known to beat the speed, tenacity and brilliance of light. It embodies excellence.
The Revelation of God’s Word brings light. Light naturally induces excellence. Paul saw this great light, and we speak of him to date.
Our excellence is intricately linked to aligning ourselves with this Light. 💜
iii. Light as the absence of heavy weight
They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired. Isaiah 40:31
I learnt recently that the ability of an eagle to fly as high as it does is because it has hollow bones. The absence of weight is key to its flight.
The same is true for light, which moves at terrific speed because it catapults through just about any medium without being weighed down by unnecessary weight.
The Word nudges us to cast all our burdens on our Lord and Father - this is always guaranteed to leave you feeling light enough to soar.
iv. Light and the ability to move at terrific speed
“Then your light will break out like the dawn, And your healing (restoration, new life) will quickly spring forth;…
I believe the identity of light comes with divine speed. Versed with this supernatural strength, Elijah was able to outrun a chariot which had more than a day’s headstart ahead of him.
Light comes with the agility to catapult anyone into a future beyond their wildest dreams. God promises to do far more than we could ever ask or imagine. He does this through divine speed, among other things.
Friends, absolutely nothing is impossible with God. 💜
v. The nature of light as a constant
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16
The unique nature has remained a constant from age to age. The consistency of light through time speaks to the true nature of its Maker - unchanging.
We are equally called to be unchanging, unrelenting in our pursuit of Him and the display of our faith and excellence.
D. THE KINGDOM OF LIGHT
Finally, creatures of light align with their Kingdom.
A Kingdom of excellence. Brilliance. Beauty. Tenacity. Agility. Relief. Visibility. Speed. Radiance. Intensity. Demonstration against darkness. Soaring. Weightless.
May we receive the Grace to be Light.
